  • Soul Soup is a Not For Profit founded and operating on the Central Coast of NSW. Soul Soup began as a one-man journey, that of Nathan Griffith, as a way to make a small impact on the homeless community around him. His passion, empathy, and kindness invited others to join him and help out in any way they can. Advantage saw an opportunity to support in getting the word of this awesome and much-needed work out there – so we offered Social Media services pro-bono to the Soul Soup team to help keep them doing what they do best – helping others.

  • What We Did
  • Soul Soup’s Advantage account manager, Virginia, took her time to get educated on the reality of the houseless community on the Central Coast, and found it was worse than she realised. Learning the facts was not enough to properly get a grip on the role Soul Soup plays, so she volunteered with the Soul Soup team over a number of weeks to gain the trust of the people she was going to be writing about and taking photos of. It was amazing to see the work and cooperation that happens – between donators, volunteers, and other charity groups such as Orange Sky and OzHarvest.

After hearing and seeing the stories of  Soul Soup and those it supports, Virginia went about designing a visual style that embodied the messages it needed to convey. To complement the photos, Virginia created a series of custom illustrations to stand out as tools for visual communication for the charity. The illustrations were drawn to convey warmth, community, humanity and authenticity.

Fundamentally, our Social Media Service was to give the Soul Soup team the time & headspace to continue working on drumming up donations and knowledge of their service to the wider community, as well as begin making legs towards a visual brand that can grow and be recognised as an impactful and important Not For Profit for the Central Coast.

  • We wanted to represent unsophisticated, raw, real. But we also wanted it to feel positive – “human” and universally understandable. In this, the illustration style is simple, almost child-like.

  • We want to take a moment to thank Soul Soup for letting us support them, and for opening our eyes to the reality of homelessness in our community. It remains a proud moment for us, to have been able to put our skills in illustration and digital towards something that is meaningful. Good luck Nathan, we hope that once COVID has passed you can continue doing amazing things for our little slice of the world.
