How to Optimise Your Google My Business profile in 2021

Google my Business

Google My Business is an essential tool for local businesses on the Central Coast. We are here to help you make the most of it.

Google My Business is one of the best free tools to help your customers find you and raise your profile. A well-managed Google My Business listing will also improve your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Did you know that of all the Google searches made, 46% are looking for local information? That means that if your business is not showing up in your customers’ searches, your competitors will instead.

What is Google My Business?

Google My Business is a free tool that lets you manage and optimise your Google Business Profile. Phew! Confused yet? It’s not as complicated as it sounds.

Your ‘Business Profile’ is simply Google’s term for the automatically generated result about your business on the search engine. It appears on Google Maps and local Google Search Results.

Ours looks like this:

A Business Profile is created in the same way that a new ‘place’ is added to Google Maps. All Google needs is a name, address, and category. While it’s great that your business is listed, the real value comes when you claim the listing and manage the details of how it appears ‘behind the scenes’. You do this by creating a Google My Business account.

What can I do with a Google My Business account?

1. Engage with customers

A Google My Business account lets you respond to reviews, answer questions, and set up direct messaging.

2. Give searchers more information about your business

You can add hours, links to your website or social pages, and relevant information about your products and services. Adding this information helps your business stand out and makes it easier for your potential customers to instantly find what they are looking for.

3. Gain insights

You can use the analytics of your Google My Business account to gain insights on your audience and search performance, to see how to measure up!

4. Boost your local SEO

Incorporate keywords into your business profile to optimise your business in local search results.

How Do I Set Up My Google My Business Listing?

Go to google.com/business. Click ‘Manage now’ and follow the prompts to create your account.

Remember! A Google My Business Account does not automatically create a Business Profile. It gives you access and the ability to manage an existing Business Profile. Once you have created your account, go to Google Maps and click ‘claim this business’ to connect the two accounts.
